Standing on the riverbank a fisherman nonchalantly stands holding his rod. This appears to be in the best tradition of antique rods, about eighteen feet long.. He is obviously strong as he can manage to hold it in one languid hand. He has plainly given up casting, probably wise as the trees are too close for comfort. This scene appears on an enchanting Limoges box, hand painted with a gilt oakleaf closure.
