The frame is a highlight of the 1000. It is made from the Trek Alpha Aluminium that is found on many higher priced bikes. This uses the natural lightweight of aluminium and strengthens it to provide reliability of performance. The downtube is oversized aero shape to provide improved aerodynamics. | The drivetrain on the 1400 is dominated by the Shimano 105 range. The 105 crankset uses Shimanos Hollowtech technology which lightens the crank while also increasing their rigidity. Performance is also improved in the crank/bottom bracket interface which is splined to increase effective power transfer. The 105 STI levers provide precision while also conforming to hand shape for improved comfort. Durability is provided in the 105 rear mech through use of 11 tooth Zytel resin pulleys. These are also low friction for a lighter action. 105 at the front means an extra wide pivot link for a more rigidity and better shifting. | The braking is provided by Shimano Tiagra brakes teamed with 105 levers for easy braking regardless of hand position. The Tiagra brakes have compact calipers for a responsive action and a lightweight construction which doesnt compromise strength. | IRC Red Storm tyres are used on the 1000, these use Glass fiber and Silica Compound for grip, CAF casing for lightweight sidewall protection and the TRF system to strengthen sidewalls and improve handling. The rims are Vuelta Airline 2 built onto 105 hubs.
