Graham's main winery is Quinta dos Malvedos, which had 3 robotic lagares installed for the 2000 vintage to "tread" grapes alongside the traditional stone lagares and combines continuous maceration & fermentation in its new stainless steel fermentation tanks - a harmony of tradition and innovation that secures Graham's position as one of the leading premium Port producers. | | Winemaking Details: | Aged Tawny Port. The indication of age relates to an average number of years spent maturing in the barrel. The prolonged wood-ageing softens and mellows the wine, producing a wine that is lighter in colour, with amber shades and a flavour of nuts and dried fruits. | | Regional Information: | Port takes its name from the city of Oporto in northern Portugal, but is produced in the sheer terraced vineyards of the Douro River valley, further inland towards the Spanish border.Temperatures range from 35 degrees C in the summer to below 0 in the winter; the rainfull can fall to drought conditions in summer - harsh conditions that lead to excellent concentration of fruit and produces wines of great power. The inaccessibility of the area means the vineyards are still tended and harvested by hand. |
