This bike is superb for upgrades as it has a high quality frame, though it comes with components of such high quality that upgrading would not be the first thing you'd want to do. As is standard on Specialized bikes, there is a Body Geometry saddle for scientifically proven comfort. |
FRAME | Specialized use A1 aluminium on the Rockhopper A1 FS. This material lets the engineers manipulate it. The tubing can be thicker in places to add strength, yet not added to other places to retain a light weight. The gussets are specific to the forces which are put through them. Tension gussets spread forces away from welds. Compression gussets splits forces in half to dissipate them down the downtube. Gussets manage forces efficiently meaning less material is used. This bike is disc brake compatible. | SUSPENSION | This bike uses a Rockshox Judy Special to provide 80mm of coil sprung travel. | DRIVETRAIN | The Shimano LX Rear Derailleur has a lightweight yet durable alloy construction. It also uses fluorine coated pivot pins for a lightweight and precise shifting action. The Deore front derailleur has a reinforced chain guide for strength of shifting performance. | BRAKING | ProMax SX-V232 linear pull brakes are controlled by Shimano Deore levers for a reliable braking performance. | WHEELS & TYRES | Specialized Team Master and Control tyres are used. These have Flak Jacket for added puncture protection. The tyres maintain a low rolling resistance through their wide faces on centre knobs, while also gaining traction through the tread and tie-bar tread design |
