Rockhoppers are most at home off-road, they are happy in competition, but the essence of their experience is to have fun. The frame is lightweight and the components are durable and perform well. Add-ons like the saddle with proven Body Geometry technology make riding the A1 Comp FS a most pleasurable experience. This bike has the added quality in one of the most crucial areas for mountain bikes... stopping |
FRAME | Specialized use A1 aluminium on the Rockhopper A1 Comp FS. This material lets the engineers manipulate it. The tubing can be thicker in places to add strength, yet not added to other places to retain a light weight. The gussets are specific to the forces which are put through them. Tension gussets spread forces away from welds. Compression gussets splits forces in half to dissipate them down the downtube. Gussets manage forces efficiently meaning less material is used. | SUSPENSION | The Rockhopper A1 Comp FS uses a Rockshox Judy C fork. This has an aluminium steerer to decrease weight. It provides 83mm of travel to absorb almost anything that you may encounter. There is also the added feature of compression damping to prevent the fork bottoming out. | DRIVETRAIN | Shimano Deore shift levers are precise and provide a light and responsive action. The short-stroke action of these shifters reduces stress and fatigue. Shimano Deore is used for the front derailleur which has a reinforced chain guide. Through providing more strength and rigidity, this improves shifting performance. The LX rear derailleur has two fluorine coated pivot pins which mean that friction is reduced. This leads to a lighter shifting action. The alloy construction also makes this lightweight. | BRAKING | The stopping power on the Rockhopper A1 Comp FS Disc comes from Magura Julies. These hydraulic disc brakes provide consistent stopping when the mud gets deeper and would affect performance of rim brakes, or if the wheel becomes damaged or warped. Julies have automatic pad wear adjustment to keep their performance consistent and a dual piston caliper to provide the stopping power. WHEELS AND TYRES | Specialized Team Master Sport is used for the rear tyre. This tyre has wider faces on the centre knobs so that the tyre encounters less rolling resistance. A tread and tie-bar knob design also means that this tyre provides incredible traction. Flak Jacket protection reduces the probability of punctures. At the front this is matched by a Team Control Sport which also features Flak Jackets. These have a front-specific tread design which aims to maintain the traction necessary for steering aswell as providing a low rolling resistance. Mavic X223 double wall rims are used with Specialized hubs |
