The XT chainset uses Shimano hollowtech technology

The XT chainset uses Shimano hollowtech technology, which means the crank arm is hollow, and weight is lost without comprimising rigidity or strength. A four arm design is also incorporated which again increases strength and lateral rigidity without increasing weight. The XT is also splined for a better joint between the crank and bottom bracket. An ES70 bottom bracket has the correct spline for use with the XT.
