In 1988, the production of cachaca in Minas Gerais was given a most significant boost, which improved its quality standards.A team of cachaca distillers entered into a partnership with INDI - the Industrial Development Institute of Minas Gerais to create the AMPAQ - The Association of Quality Cachaca Producers of the State of Minas Gerais. The AMPAQ has dedicated itself to the subject, conducted researches and disseminated scientific and biotechnological information about the beverage, besides investing in the implementation of norms to regulate the production of the sugar-cane distilled drink in copper stills. Today, such norms are strictly obeyed by the 300 producers members of the institution.The State of Minas Gerais is the market leader in Brazil in the production of cacha?a in copper stills.
