Aglianico thrives in the mountainous region of Basilicata and in particular on the slopes of the extinct volcano, Vulture. The vineyards of Vulture are higher in altitude than most in Italy and so the slow-maturing Aglianico can ripen at its own pace. The area is beautifully sparse, just mountainous plains, fields of crops and a smattering of vineyards. The Pipoli is a wonderful example of Aglianico; dark, robust fruit with body and structure.
