It is belived that the Negroamaro variety was imported into Puglia around the 7th Century. Its translation means black (Negro) and slightly bitter (amaro). At its best the variety certainly delivers inky dark wines with puckering tannins and hearty fruit. Salice Salentino is a small town in the heel of Puglia which produces some great Negroamaro.
