Just to the northeast of the spectacular town of Minervois is the 30 hectare domaine of Jean-Christophe Piccinini. The Piccininis are an ancient family of Minervois vignerons going back many generations but Jean-Christophe only set up this domaine in the early 90s. He makes a full range of local wines but this organic red, made from 20-year-old Syrah vines grown on the testing stony clay soils, caught our eye because it combines abundant fruit matched to a solid backbone.
