Susan and Peter Close gave up a high flying lifestyle to settle at the Camplazens (old Roman camp) on the vine friendly hill of La Clape just south of Narbonne. This used to be an island when Julius Caesar visited but is now part of the mainland. The land is rugged and covered in a maquis of wild herbs and stunted evergreen oaks. Peter planted classic southern grapes like Syrah and Carignan but it is his juicy Grenache that really excites us for its softly gulpable but highly characterful flavo (Barcode EAN=3760067250264)
