Boxing Champions is a simple game when compared to most beat-'em-ups as each of the nine available fighters has only a few different punches, a block and two special moves to work with. Your fighter's physical appearance changes when they take damage which also reduces their power and agility. If your boxer is floored you are required to rapidly press the controller buttons to get him back on his feet again and this is also used to regain your health and stamina between rounds. Similar to real boxing to win you require either a knockout or have the most points at the end of twelve rounds.

Its style is reminiscent of 16-bit fighting games before learning complicated button presses to trigger ever more elaborate combos was required. This is a real blessing for multiplayer fights as a newcomer can learn the moves quickly
