On 6th November 1929 the Junkers chief pilot Zimmermann took it on its maiden flight and was surprised by its outstanding flying characteristics. From the summer of 1931 the G38 flew with 30 passengers on the Berlin-Hanover-Amsterdam-London route. As a special attraction the glazed leading edge of the wing was equipped with 6 seats.
