This winery was founded in 1885 by Don Felipe Lagunilla San Martin, who is widely acknowledged as the pioneer of grafting native vines onto American rootstocks, thereby rescuing the phylloxera-hit wine industry in Rioja. Warm, earthy aromas such as hints of coffee and pipe tobacco on the nose. A mature and rounded palate of soft red forest fruits and a lingering, spicy oak finish. Drink with tender roast lamb or braised oxtail.
