MIDWAY Haven Call of the King GC
Haven: Call of the King clearly has the best of intentions, setting out to be a sort of Legend of Zelda jack-of-all-trades and specialising in some good old-fashioned 3-D platform leaping. The game does have variety in its favour, with tons of mini-games and lots of vehicles and weapons to commandeer. Indeed, the various levels are commendably interactive, even if far too many of them are interspersed with Crash Bandicoot-style out-of-screen platform sections. There's also a bizarre obsession with crockery: health pots, explosive urns, hint vases and more litter this game world.
Unfortunately, the skittish controls and poor level design ensure that running and jumping around the game world is far less fun than it should be, especially with your irritating yo-yo/grappling hook constantly causing you to get caught in explosions you really didn't think you were anywhere near. With titles such as Super Mario Sunshine and Star Fox Adventures around, Haven is really only worth trying if you already have these games and desperately want to play something similar--but not half as good.
