Tucked away in the corner of northwest Bedfordshire is one of the most famous racetracks in the world - Santa Pod Raceway. Santa Pod has earned the reputation as the home of European Drag Racing but this time its all about drifting. Drifting refers to a driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, causing loss of traction in the rear wheels through turns, while preserving vehicle control and a high exit speed. In other words youll be going sideways around bends with your tyres smoking! Being able to control a powerslide through corners is fantastic fun. Learning from professional drivers, who actually compete in the European championships, and using cars modified specifically for drifting gives you a true taste of what this sport is all about. Its not all about speed and lap times, its about taking a car beyond its limit of grip, holding it at the biggest angle possible and repeating this through every corner with style. This isnt for the faint hearted though. Trying to control a rear wheel drive car, with upwards of 250bhp, around a track requires a lot of concentration. 99 percent of the time youll be travelling sideways and looking out of the side windows to see where youre heading with your mirrors full of tyre smoke!
